Key Stage 5

Art A-Level

Art A-Level students are offered a scheme of work that encourages them to discover and explore their own creativity. Students explore the theme through observational drawing, painting and sculpture. Our student’s work is of a very high standard and students benefit from an open space within the dept where they can work outside of timetabled lessons.

In Year 13 students complete a personal investigation of their own choice and are supported with opportunities to attend portfolio days. At the end of term two Students start work on exam preparation based on a choice of externally set titles. They then sit a practical exam over a period of days where they will work in the Art rooms to produce a final and informed final piece.

Photography A-Level

Photography A-Level is a popular subject where students in YR12 explore the theme of ‘Portraits’, ‘Still Life’, ‘Circles and Stripes’ and ‘Sense of Place’ looking at a number of different photographers who have explored these themes within their work. Students explore how to use their camera and how to manipulate pictures using ICT.

In Year 13 students complete a personal investigation of their own choice based on the idea of problem solving and they produce a 'Related Study' to run alongside this, where they explore the influence of a photographer on their own work. At the end of term the students start work on exam preparation based on a choice of externally set titles, where they then sit a practical exam over a period of days and work in the Art rooms to produce a final and informed final piece.
